I’m in the middle of a season 4 re-watch (it’s only my second time) and while last time I was caught up in themes and parallels and foreshadowing, this time around all I can think about is cupid.
Because heaven arranged for Mary and John to meet. Their love was preordained.
So then John dies, and Mary, irrevocably (artificially) in love, sells her unborn child for John’s return.
And then Mary dies, and John, irrevocably (artificially) in love, sells his children’s future for a chance at revenge.
Because heaven didn’t just want Dean and Sam. They wanted Dean and Sam so psychologically damaged they’d do the impossible. They’d say yes where saner men might turn and run.
And doesn’t that just sum up nicely everything about this show?
